Las Vegas

Las Vegas, a town in the desert,  built as a place to get away from the law.

Who knows what sorts of otherworldly  beings exist out among the wilds ?

The Desert, a place of ancient races and Old Magics.

Some people come out to this place to find themselves or to see who they truly are, while others come out to this place to lose themselves and escape from the world as they known it.

There are tales of Shamans and Sages and Wilding women who will gladly grant either of these desires for a simple price.

What secrets will you uncover? What mysteries and stories with you unlock? These reasons and more are why the Bueau sent a pair of agents out to this unknown place, to be the eyes and ears in this new and strange land.

writings vol 4?

The Light and Dark, side by side. But its not that simple is it?  They are never equally divided and keep neatly to their own corners. More so they are intermingled sending forth forays and attacks into the other side. each giving up ground as they strive to take new.

============================================
It was dark raining again in the unassuming town off the freeway. The storm often cracked and boomed overhead, letting down a fresh torrent of water every so often. It had done this more often recently, as if the place was trying to scrub itself clean from some unknowable, unforgivable deed. This would be the fifth night watching the old tumbledown house, watching the people come and go at all hours. Listening to the rain bounce off the car, its hard irregular staccato slowly bewildering the brain.

It was Raining harder than he had thought it was. The Metallic ping of the fat drops bouncing on the awning to his office.  Tugging his fedora down a little lower and buttoning up his duster against the elements. He had always like the rain, even in a city such as this one it seemed to wash all of the sins and all of the wrongdoings away. A time to star anew. It was usually quite on nights like this but this night seemed unusually still. The only thing he could hear was his footsteps on the wet concrete, the heavy raindrops splashing down around him, pounding the pavement in their own staccato beat, and the ever constant hum of the highway in the distance.

A voice from his past called out from the shadows a few doors down. "Dicks, you got time for an old friend?"  Stopping and sighing softly to himself, calling out  " Ya  Shirley I got time."  Turning and Walking back up to his office turning the key in the lock and pushing the door open. " Comon, lets go back to my office. I don't want to stand out here and drown."

The Sun beat down on the two swordsmen, glistening off the beads of sweat that slowly dripped down. words held loosely but with resolve. The two had met before never on the field of combat, though this arena was not new to either of them. Standing there, before the expectant eyes of the crowd hungry for the flash of steel and the spray of blood.

Fly, Turn on wing

Fly, Turn on wing
Run as far as you can.

Let none stop you in your flight
lest the suns first rays
break upon your back.

Else the hunters watchful eyes
See the sun on your heel.
Or your silhouette glimpsed upon the wall.

Flee, warn those you meet
There is no shame in this.
The Glory of the battle,
will crest more quickly than you know.

All will be swept into its fold
That is when you must be strong
Turning as one and facing the fear most base.
Knowing that this will pass,
through and over you.

Duncan and the Darkman

Duncan knew that he was alone in the bar.   So why was he not surprised when he saw a man in black leaning against the bar, idly flipping a coin?  The man spoke softly, firmly " Why mister Denton, lucky meeting you here.  I simply came in for a drink, pity the bar seems to have run dry. "

Duncan glanced around the empty room and reached into his trouser pocket , withdrawing  a slender silver flask and tossing it to the figure.
" Oh what a treat. Some of your private stock." Unscrewing the cap and taking a long swallow. Recapping the flask and tossing it back in a  smooth underhand toss. " My, my that is a lovely brew that you have there, makes me wonder where you stole it from. "
Duncan's hand never left the well worn grips of his heavy pistols as he casually walked down the stairs.  He had known that this day would come although he had hoped that he would have had more time to prepare. Funny that the Council would choose to send his long time adversary all the way into the wilderness  to this deserted little mining town where he had long ago chosen for his exile.
"Now Duncan , surely you know I am not here to fight you. Not today anyway. We both know that fight is inevitable." said  the Dark man as he leaned back across the dusty bar. Then with a blur and a clatter of boots on the hard wooden floor  he was behind the bar. Bending over and rummaging through the dusty discarded glasses and stiff rags , the Dark man stood up stiffly , slipping a box of shells into his pocket and hoisting a coach gun over his shoulder .

"If you don't mind  Ill be taking these . You still have the other three and I am sure that those three will keep you safe here in your little fortress." The dark man smirked. " Just be careful Duncan the,  wolves are closing in faster than you think. "
With that, the Dark man nodded at Duncan , vaulted neatly back over the bar and was gone leaving the double doors flapping in his wake.   Duncan slipped the now empty flask back into his pocket , made his way back up the stairs.  and paused a minute looking back down at the swinging doors. Turning and making his way to his room Duncan knew it was time to move along, he had simply been here too long.

short stories

Conroco City, he had made and lost many friends there. It was where he had spent his formative years. Growing and adjusting to what he could do .  The the disappointment, understanding, that he was special, finding out that he was alone and making a place for himself here. He was called by a different name then, a name he no longer used bit still answered to.

There had been so many angry voices that day. So much rage and confusion.  Phernoch had almost been swayed to change his mind.  Almost. He knew he was doing the right thing. He was growing up, and Sometimes, you just have to leave home and strike your flag in a new place.

And so it was, that Artimus and Solulus fought side by side and did such the rumors of their heroism grew. Solulus received word from the town of Dolehaven that they where under siege from a powerful demon. The two warriors kitted up and left their homes to do battle with this demon named Walear.  The three clashed for hours wearing each other down, and bringing the fighting to a standstill.  Resting for a while. produced a scroll bearing several divine markings and declared " If we cannot best this demon then let it be bound to me!"
Fortified by the short break.  The two set upon Walear once more with fury. Then under the silvery full moon, Solulus was pinned beneath the demons blade, Artimus grabbed the scroll and started the incantation. Upon reaching the end of the spell, Artimus places his hand on the demons back  and Solulus cried out in horror as he watched the foul beast get rapped within his long time friend.

Dropping his sword  and stumbling away from the battlefield and into the dark woods.

time and tide

Over that hill there is a world full of promise and uncertainty. We can predict what the future will hold, and do our best to plan for all possibilities. However we will never know, the number of uncertainties is simply mind boggling. In short there is no way to know the number of things that we do not know.  The best we can do is hope our plans and schemes are worthwhile.

The cold winds blow, constant and ceaseless, nature requires that we build shelters and such. Putting down timbers and stolen. Using nature against itself. To try and protect those things we have scrapped together. Trying to mark our place and time on this rock. To say " I was here This is who I am." those things gain a personal significance, and we pass them along to our family and friends that they might have something to remember us by. The problem being that they will find that they will find that the things we pass on mean different things to them. Where do they keep our memories in amongst those that they are trying to build for themselves.

The Witching Hour.

The Witching hour Before the world wakes up,
The moon has settled back in his chair.
The Reddish purple rays of dawn's light
have yet to brush the sand filled eyes of the slumbering folk
eager only to catch those last restive moments.

This is when I rule, preparing for the early rush.
The occasional car flashing past.
A couple stops in weary from the road,
Halfway to where they want to be.
Then they are gone and I remain.
The road stretching out before them,
the waking sun lighting their path
Pushing them ever onwards.

Soon, too soon it seems
It will be busy, no time to think
Time only to react, to run on instinct.
There is no worry only a cheery smile and knowing hands,
But now is my time - to stop, to reflect and to prepare.
Waiting and biding my time here
In the Witching Hour.

writings from june 3rd

The best has just arrived that was the sound that everyone hear over the loudspeakers. Several people looked towards the door not sure what to expect. soon enough the large afro and orange jumper could be clearly seen walking through the crowd. Sure he was good, but the best? well that is what they where all here to find out wasn't it? and being who they where it was going to be a fun contest.

======== I do so hate being the bearer of bad news, but yet here I am again dealing with the familiar. Dammit Jamie why do you always have to be so grim? Not Every situation calls for you to be so incredibly morbid. Sorry Otis, Sometimes I just can't help it. I try to be more cheery but it has always been so difficult for me.

==== The Rain pounded off the glass, heavy and sharp. Otis watched from his third story office window as the people below splashed though the puddles, and smiled to himself as dark umbrellas sprouted like ill-weather flowers. Returning to his canvas, attempting to re-creature the hustle and bustle down below. He didn't know why but he always did his best work when the weather took a turn for the worse. It seemed that was his gift. to bring the light out of a dark situation. His assistant was in the lobby scurrying around , sorting files, cleaning and eavesdropping on his calls. The usual sorts of things that she did. I t was a little bothersome at times but Otis didn't let that bother him anymore. She was reliable and always showed up no matter what else was going on in her life. Granted she always took the time to let him know exactly what was going on her life.

Traveling man

An older oriental man is traveling home after a trip abroad. He has a satchell full of things he had collected on his trip, little knick-knacks mostly. If he finds something that he likes, the old man attempts to trade or barter for it. In an airport terminal, he comes across a woman selling tiny trees in pots. He trades her a seramic panda for one. Along the way he meets up with a strange man, and it they always seem to be traveling on the same bus, or plane or staying at the same hotel. They start to talk whenever they meet, however the destination or starting location is never discussed. The elder man trades a piece of thumb=-sized quartz for a watch. Stops at a dinner one night, offers to sweep the floor for his meal. In walks the traveler, who offers to help him. There is no indication that the old man is rich or poor, but rather that he is content, and the traveler appears to be well off.

Artimus GreyFur

Artimus Greyfur - Demon Wolflord

The moniker Demon is really a misnomer that he had picked up somewhere in his travels. Born of nature raised in the woods. Around the time he was 10 Artimus found a wolf cub caught in a snare left for some beavers. Freeing the pup he took it home and raised it as his pet and companion. During Artimus's training as a Druid, the pup Rickett went everywhere with him. As the years passed Artimus grew in power and respect amongst his piers, gathering more wolves in his pack, all the while Rickett never lost his place at his Master side, until it was his time to leave this plane. Vowing never to forget his longtime friend and ally. Artimus made a cloak from Rickett's pelt and proudly wore the dappled fur in all his travels.

Over time Artimus had learned that he had a certain power over the wolves around him, that they would bend to his will and almost eagerly follow his commands. Also learning where they where around him without looking, knowing that as long as a wolf was near him he would always have an ally. Many of the people he met where scared of this strange man wearing a wolf pelt cloak, and surrounded by the large beasts. Often this fear lead to anger and he was driven from villages and towns on numerous occasions.

The Man

And lo the one who was fallen shall rise to find his name destroyed and his home burned to ash.

Setting off to find the Three, taking nothing with knowing that he would find what he needed along the way. No one looked at him as he walked through town, fearful of his gaze and fearful of his scorn. Those who looked upon him quickly went about their business. Walking to the store, he was met in the doorway by a trembling young girl who was holding a satchel in both hands like a shield. Taking the bag and slinging it over his shoulder, he turned to tank the girl but she had already disappeared into the depths of the shop.

Looking over the small town that he used to call home and elderly man stepped up beside him, speaking softly "you'll want to head West, that's where why where last seen" Nodding his acknowledgement, the man stretched and put on his had and stepped down onto the dusty street, none to eager about starting his new life.

the Kings Life.

A king of England newly appointed to the throne. Set at about the turn of the 20 Century. Is the only male heir in line. His cousin's Mother wants one of her three sons to be king. and is trying to set up a controversy in which the throne will abdicate to one of her sons. The New king seems oblivious to it all but a pair of agents loyal to the throne suspect that something is afoot. and search to uncover the plot.

Much of the movie is the Aunt trying to get the King abdicated for scandal by setting him up with various females and males in his bedchambers. but the Agents seems to foil her plots at every turn. Leaving the King oblivious to her attempts. but he starts to think that these two agents are stalking him as they always seem to be where he is. and has a talk with their Captain about having them re-assigned to another sector. The Captain talks the King out of it by telling him that they are just doing their duty and that they are his best agents.

during a Gala event, the Aunt is spreading rumors and lies to various people trying to discredit the King who during the Gala has turned on all the Charm and the other guests wonder if he is really sincere or simply trying to cover up for his other actions.

End of the film the kings best friend has started working with the agents and is poised in a turret to try and stop an assassination attempt but has been told that the assassin is in the wrong box, and then realizes it at the end. Makes the right shot using a crossbow and no one is the wiser and the two agents are busy stopping men that the Aunt has sent to stop the friend.

Movie ends at a party where the King meets the two agents and they finally get to explain what it is they where doing the whole time.

Web comics

This is this web comic I read,  well there are more than one, but I am only going to  talk about one of them.  I like the comic its a fun time the story is great and in depth and it is on my list of things to check every day. Sure there are parts i don’t understand, such as when the two characters turn into something else and fight.  not really sure what that is about.  However their art style is bright and detailed and full of vim and vigor. Except when its not, recently ( during the last year or so) their style has changed to a very simplistic flat stick figure and body block style. Which gives this great story a very uninteresting dimension and for myself makes this great web comic something that I am hesitant to check on, not knowing which style will be used today.

I understand why the artist would use the two different styles. Be it time constraints while still wanting to express a story that is in their head. Or saving the better style for the book of the comic so that is is something special and not just things printed from the webpage. Or perhaps there is another reason I am unaware of that makes doing full detail on the web comic a practical impossibility. I suppose I could find out if I read their blog or the comments. However for the Vast majority of the web comics that I read  I view the imagery or read the entry for the day and that is where I leave things.  perhaps I should read more about the individual artists, perhaps that would expand my enjoyment of their web comic if I knew of the influences and details that went into the comic.  The little that I do see is mostly about conventions that they are attending and items for sale in their online store. This is all well and good for it gets publicity out about the comic and helps to make them money. All of the conventions they attend are much to far away for myself to go to and while I would purchase items in their store most of my money is allocated to bills and food and such.

Adventurer game night the first

Some people in know are getting together to game once or twice a week. these are the chronicles of what happened during the session.

Adventurer is a simple one page, three stat system. Fairly simple but very open ended and leave lots to creativity. Any one can cast spells as long as they pass their Int check.  which can come in handy in a pinch. All spells have a hit point cost which is reduced by how well you roll on your Int check. melee combat is pretty straight forward, with base damage equal to how much you beat your Str check by.  The system can be found on the 1,000 monkeys, 1,000 typewriters site. Which is a fun place to find out about new and different  role-playing systems.

DM  :

last nights session was a lot of fun. we have an Elven mage, a human fighter and goblin rogue. The mage almost died. and the fighter cast his first spell

Murray/Shaedyn :

Oooh cool

DM  :

they got summoned by the Vice Roy, because there is a giant rampaging his home town.

DM :

so on the way out of town after getting their assignment they stole a horse and a wagon, and a small cask of wine from this farmer. you can still get punished for your actions, but this trio had been causing trouble around town so the Vise Roy didn't send anyone after them.

DM :

so they got into a fight with some thugs, another mage and his apprentice.

The mage summoned in an earth elemental and then turned him invisible.

Murray/Shaedyn :

Wut!?

DM :

what part? the turning him invisible?

Murray/Shaedyn:

All of it

isn't earth elemental a bit much1?

DM :

well on the way to his home town is when the ran into these guys.

oh yea I forgot to tell you that this isn't a D&D system.

Murray/Shaedyn:

ahh okay true

DM :

so the earth elemental was not all that bad. the rogue and the fighter teamed up on the summoner and took him down. and when he died the elemental went with him.

Murray/Shaedyn:

ahhh okies, makes sense

DM :

his apprentice got sapped by the party mage with this massive lightning bolt.

Murray/Shaedyn:

Ooooh, bye bye apprentice!

DM:

one of the thugs got beat down but the two melee guys, and then the last guy died because the party mage lifted him a half mile into the air and then let him go.

Murray/Shaedyn:

Wow this mage seems pretty strong

DM :

well yes and no. how strong the spells are is determined by how well you roll.

and he just happened to roll max for those two spells.

New Revolution

Welcome to the new revolution not a revolution of guns and blood, but of information and technology. This will be an exciting time for all of here at Confederated bunny and we hope that you will join us as we move towards the future.

Sometimes I wish I could just take all of my anger, hate, and emotions push them into a little ball and hurl it into the sun where they belong. . That way they can’t get involved in my life and hurt myself more than they should. One of the few things that keeps me from accepting the cold embrace of the Reaper is that it would hurt my mother, and people would think I took the easy way out. Another thing that stops me is that I want people to remember me. I hope they do, most of the time I still act like a child much younger than I am I know I am approaching 30 but I still act like I’m in my teens, with imagination and energy, from inside my head I think I look different than I actually do, most of it depends on what I am doing at the time. Yes I know this has ended differently than from what it started out as, but unfortunately that is the way my mind works. Deal with it.

You’re not really here

You’re not really there

Everyone you know is never there

When you need someone

They are never ever there

Leaving you alone inside yourself.

Talking and Thinking.

sometimes; not often it feels like then when I talk to people, friends,, people i have on my messenger lists whatnot. It feels like I am bothering them, like they have something else more important to do. and yet I still try to converse with them. I know that I am not an easy person to talk to and that usually getting answers from me is like pulling teeth.  I just have a really hard time being open and forthcoming with people. I have a few close friends who I know don’t care   and that makes them easier to talk to.

Most of them are busy with work, family, gaming or whatnot. And while they are happy to hear from me ( or so I assume) that there is something better they could be doing.  Often I am more open with strangers than I am with family members, mostly because the strangers i talk to don’t know anyone else I know which makes things easier. Easier because if this sense i have that if I tell one person they will tell another and another and so on and so forth. when  all I wanted to have was a nice private conversation with that one person about something. Without telling the whole world about it.

I do not know, maybe there is something wrong inside my head. Maybe I should go talk to someone or start taking meds or something. I just do not know. does this mean that I am going to just vanish someday? No of course not that would be silly. I do know that this means that some people may find it frustrating to talk to me. Maybe I like who I am now and am scared of the person I would become if those problems where resolved, I just do not know. Or perhaps I am just thinking to much into this, being to introspective and should stop doing that, I suppose that only time will tell.

The Fight Scene

Michael  slumped tiredly against the wall, his body sore, bruised and bloody. The creature howled as it jumped at him once more, it’s heavy hind feet slamming into his chest the talons ripping his jacket. Michael felt his armor give under the furious assault knocking the wind from him. Pushing off of the tired warrior the creature’s leather wings beat against the air as it took flight for another dive. Willing his body to move to react before it came back his tired form could only slump to the ground. Coughing wetly, Michael chuckled to himself “ So this is my end huh? Well then better make it a good one. “ Reaching for his sidearm he raised it shakily pointed at the oncoming beast. Two loud reports filled the small cave blood splattering from the diving creature as it suddenly fell to the ground and rolled to a stop near his feet. Michael sighed and dropped his gun, cleaning back against the wall and closing his eyes, willing his body to repair itself when he heard the familiar booming voice again “ Splendid fight brother, but did you really think I was going to let someone else kill you?”

Adventurer RPG 1 page system

This is a review and discussion between two people of the Adventurer RPG 1 page system written by Joe Pruitt. The system can be found here. We where both impressed by the system both in its streamlining, and in its complexity. Great work Mr. Pruitt.

Tobias Bluesummers says:
What's this?
AlphaBeta Detox says:
its a 1 page rpg
i really like 1 page systems
Tobias Bluesummers says:
Yeah it's kinda neat
AlphaBeta Detox says:
oh that;s neat,  in order to cast a spell out of a spell book, you make an int check, and you lose a number of hp equal to the spells cost, even if you fail the int check
cool, the character sheet could be redone on a index card
Tobias Bluesummers says:
Yeah it's small enough
I also like the improvement method
AlphaBeta Detox says:
yea that is interesting, the ability checks seem strange to me though
Tobias Bluesummers says:
Yeah a little but I think I understand them
AlphaBeta Detox says:
your roll 2d6, then compare it to your score, you want your score to be the higher of the two?
Tobias Bluesummers says:
roll 2d6 and try to get under what your score is
Yup
AlphaBeta Detox says:
that makes sense then
Tobias Bluesummers says:
I guess the gm can give modifiers too
AlphaBeta Detox says:
i like how the ability score are determined
Tobias Bluesummers says:
Yeah start at 7, adjust for race and class
Then you can dink with them a little, nothing higher than a 12 allowed to start
AlphaBeta Detox says:
kind of Max for each score is a 12
Tobias Bluesummers says:
Oh that's right
Was thinking that's max for starting
AlphaBeta Detox says:
since you only have 2d6
Tobias Bluesummers says:
Yeah it is kinda sill to have anything over a 12
AlphaBeta Detox says:
so the damage is your str vs. their dex  and however much you beat it by is how much you deal
Tobias Bluesummers says:
It looks like for melee it's a str test to hit
AlphaBeta Detox says:
and ranged is dex
Tobias Bluesummers says:
And then damage is by how much you beat the number by
Yeah and then you adjust for weapon and armor
AlphaBeta Detox says:
oh hey there is a damage line
Tobias Bluesummers says:
Fairly well thought out system for being so streamlined
AlphaBeta Detox says:
no kidding, I'm reading the magic section
so are range and size in the same cost?
Tobias Bluesummers says:
So does it look like you pretty much pick the "class" the spell it is and then the factors of what you want the spell to do?
I don't know. I'm wondering if you add the costs
AlphaBeta Detox says:
yea
Tobias Bluesummers says:
What I don't quiet understand is the magnitude. Is that the number of creatures it affects?
AlphaBeta Detox says:
so say you wanted to heal you would go Instant ( 0 ) + touch ( 1) medium ( 2) =3?
Tobias Bluesummers says:
Actually the range would be touch
AlphaBeta Detox says:
unless the magnitude is only for certain spells like Bolt, and Heal
Tobias Bluesummers says:
so that would be 0 as well
AlphaBeta Detox says:
self is 0 touch is 1
Tobias Bluesummers says:
That could be, maybe magnitude is like a bonus to the effect or something
AlphaBeta Detox says:
could be
Tobias Bluesummers says:
Ah true, I was looking at healing yourself, but you'd probably still need to use the touch line
AlphaBeta Detox says:
no then you could probably use self, but all spells require at least 1 hp
Tobias Bluesummers says:
Yeah
AlphaBeta Detox says:
i like the idea of the charge crystals
Tobias Bluesummers says:
Yeah those sound interesting. Storing the energy for spells
AlphaBeta Detox says:
you could be really powerful if you made up a ton of them before hand and they started casting these massive spells
Tobias Bluesummers says:
Yeah.
Oh just got looking and in a few of the spells it mentions magnitude
AlphaBeta Detox says:
but the spells sound like you just say what you want to do then the DM figures out the rest
Tobias Bluesummers says:
You were right it deals with the damage causing spells and the healing ones
Yeah pretty much. Kinda a neat magic system
Hey look at the weapon rating for a second to see if I'm understanding it right
Say you had a fighter using something like a great sword
would that be a +3 weapon rating?
AlphaBeta Detox says:
ok so great sword =  2 hands = +2 and +1 for bladed so total of +3
Tobias Bluesummers says:
bladed +1, metal +1, two-handed +1
AlphaBeta Detox says:
forgot about the metal
what counts as Fine then?
Tobias Bluesummers says:
I would guess it's just another term for masterwork
AlphaBeta Detox says:
i was thinking like small, but that makes more sense that its masterwork
Tobias Bluesummers says:
Only reason I think more masterwork is because it already talks about small weapons
those are -1
So then the question comes, what are small weapons?
Does that mean like daggers and such
Or weapons made for smaller creatures?
AlphaBeta Detox says:
daggers, saps, and whatnot
and weapons made for smaller creatures
like goblins
Tobias Bluesummers says:
That could be.
AlphaBeta Detox says:
and dwarves?
Tobias Bluesummers says:
The way the system seems though is that there really is no size difference among the races
AlphaBeta Detox says:
true
Tobias Bluesummers says:
So I think the small weapon is more referring to daggers and such
AlphaBeta Detox says:
daggers, throwing weapons, saps,
would have to come up with monsters
i like the fact that anyone can use magic
if they can pass the test
Tobias Bluesummers says:
Yeah monsters wouldn't be that hard
Oh yeah anyone can use scrolls if they can make the int check
That's kinda a nice addition
AlphaBeta Detox says:
look at the falling that;s cool its a set amount of damage
Tobias Bluesummers says:
Yeah but it adds up
20ft is 3 hps, 30ft is 6 hps
AlphaBeta Detox says:
but you can lessen it with dex, well a little bit anyway
Tobias Bluesummers says:
Yeah that's true
AlphaBeta Detox says:
but even if you max out dex your still in a world of hurt after 40 ft
Tobias Bluesummers says:
Yeah, like it should be
The thing about falling unconscious after each hit is kinda different
AlphaBeta Detox says:
yea, well you don;t get knocked out after each hit, but you have to test it  which kind of makes sense
Tobias Bluesummers says:
Yeah, the lower you get to 0 the easier it is to knock you out
AlphaBeta Detox says:
because the first 2-3 times your going to be alright
Tobias Bluesummers says:
True
AlphaBeta Detox says:
really well thought out system
Tobias Bluesummers says:
Yeah it really is
A little tweaking and it could work for anything
AlphaBeta Detox says:
and i think that is the idea
Tobias Bluesummers says:
Yeah it really is

learning the trade

Spreading his paints before him once more he new that this was going to be a challenge for him. Ever since he had learned this bizarre technique from the elder witch woman. The power to travel between places and times through the canvas, the pains he had suffered to keep it hidden from all who would steal this gift from him. Doing what he must do. Sighing heavily he picked up his brush once more and let the scene unfold before him.

He had gone back to her for tutelage several times, until he could no longer afford to pay her heavy fees. For it was more than mere gold and jewels that she sought out. She demanded payment in secrets and souls. It was there in her remote village that he had learned the ancient mystical art that could be contained briefly within paintings and forever within tapestries. Day and night he slaved for a dozen new moons, gathering her supplies and learning her ways until she was satisfied that he had it right. Only then did she allow him to leave knowing that he would be back, filled with the desire for more and the loathing of the price to be paid.

However It was also from her that he learned more about what he was and how he could get around that which he hated the most. How he could keep his victims alive and feed for a year and a day, a secret he dared not to share with the others lest they drive him out to walk naked amongst the cattle. The memories of lifetimes past flowed through him, some causing grief and pain others joy ,tearing him in twain for what he was and what he had become. He knew that he could no more change what he was than to turn back the tide of time and thusly he carried on from day to day.
