Duncan and the Darkman

Duncan knew that he was alone in the bar.   So why was he not surprised when he saw a man in black leaning against the bar, idly flipping a coin?  The man spoke softly, firmly " Why mister Denton, lucky meeting you here.  I simply came in for a drink, pity the bar seems to have run dry. "

Duncan glanced around the empty room and reached into his trouser pocket , withdrawing  a slender silver flask and tossing it to the figure.
" Oh what a treat. Some of your private stock." Unscrewing the cap and taking a long swallow. Recapping the flask and tossing it back in a  smooth underhand toss. " My, my that is a lovely brew that you have there, makes me wonder where you stole it from. "
Duncan's hand never left the well worn grips of his heavy pistols as he casually walked down the stairs.  He had known that this day would come although he had hoped that he would have had more time to prepare. Funny that the Council would choose to send his long time adversary all the way into the wilderness  to this deserted little mining town where he had long ago chosen for his exile.
"Now Duncan , surely you know I am not here to fight you. Not today anyway. We both know that fight is inevitable." said  the Dark man as he leaned back across the dusty bar. Then with a blur and a clatter of boots on the hard wooden floor  he was behind the bar. Bending over and rummaging through the dusty discarded glasses and stiff rags , the Dark man stood up stiffly , slipping a box of shells into his pocket and hoisting a coach gun over his shoulder .

"If you don't mind  Ill be taking these . You still have the other three and I am sure that those three will keep you safe here in your little fortress." The dark man smirked. " Just be careful Duncan the,  wolves are closing in faster than you think. "
With that, the Dark man nodded at Duncan , vaulted neatly back over the bar and was gone leaving the double doors flapping in his wake.   Duncan slipped the now empty flask back into his pocket , made his way back up the stairs.  and paused a minute looking back down at the swinging doors. Turning and making his way to his room Duncan knew it was time to move along, he had simply been here too long.
